Do You Want The Planet To Die?
August 24, 2023[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]To volunteer means to work for something without getting paid. In today’s world, it is impossible to fathom that someone would give something, without expecting anything in return.
And yet, many people continue to do so. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]
What drives people to volunteer?
The concept of volunteering almost seems non-sensical. Would you or I give up our precious free hours, working for something, without getting any compensation for it? However, thousands of people do just that.
And yes, they get compensated.
But not in the way we think. People who volunteer are not looking for monetary compensation. Different forces drive people to volunteer.
Praise and Recognition
Praise and recognition may seem a superficial driving force to some, but the reality is that it serves and fulfills a very essential human need: the need for recognition. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs also puts the need for recognition on the fourth tier leading to self-actualization. Therefore, performing community work for praise and recognition is quite a valid reason.
They Feel Passionately for a Cause
Another reason why individuals give up their free hours and work for something is because they feel passionate about it. It could be a clause close to their heart, such as working for cancer patients after losing a beloved to cancer. Or it could be just something they care deeply about, such as the future of our earth in light of climate change.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”404″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
For their Personal Growth
Many people volunteer because it provides them with an avenue to grow. When you are doing community service, there’s a lot you learn along the way that will prove to be beneficial for you and your personal growth.
Duty
Some people perform community service mainly because it is a duty. For instance, college students volunteer because it is a degree requirement.
The Many Benefits of Volunteering
Connects You to Yourself
When you work hard for something you may not get monetary compensation for, it will give you room to think about things that matter to you. You will learn what is important to you and what isn’t.
Connects You to Others
Volunteerism often entails working for others. This aspect of volunteerism helps the individual form bonds and connections with others that do not have material motivations. Rather, the bonds formed are pure and long-lasting.
Brings People Together
Community service can prove to be the force that keeps people together. It forms a tightly-knit community of individuals who have similarly passionate feelings for a cause.
Gives you a Purpose
Volunteering gives you a purpose. It gives you a sense of achievement in trying to make the world a better place, however small may your contribution be.
Volunteerism at the Sheikhani Group:
At the Sheikhani Group, we motivate our employees to give back to the community and support them in their volunteer efforts.
We provide our employees with Time-Off for Volunteering. We understand that time is a valuable resource, and we want to empower our employees to dedicate their time to causes close to their hearts. Employees can get a certain amount of paid hours they can use for volunteering without worrying about their work commitments. By doing so we want to foster a sense of fulfillment and purpose in our employees.
Employees at Sheikhani Group are also encouraged to take initiative whenever they can. Whether it is organizing a beach cleanup, or raising funds for the underprivileged, we make sure that the causes receive our full support.
